6. Destroyer - Samoa Joe

Many of Samoa Joe's numerous themes have incorporated the ominous horns that begin Akira Ifukube's Godzilla theme as an intro. Destroyer eschews that for a decidedly more obscure kaiju sound, resembling the more bombastic, surf-and-funk influenced work of Masaru Sato. Specifically, it sounds like a track from the original Godzilla vs. MechaGodzilla (1974). If that doesn't imply strongly enough how much of a beast Samoa Joe is, a literal roar - that of a bear, by the sounds of it - is in the mix.

The monstrous motif combines with a funk rhythm and heavy percussion to create a sound that's equal parts giant monster rampage, urban brawl, and Polynesian war dance; in other words, absolutely perfect for the Samoan Submission Machine.

And the less said about the original version, the better.
