Chris Jericho DONE With ROH After World Title Loss (AEW News)

The latest Chris Jericho-in-ROH era is over

Once again, Chris Jericho's time in Ring of Honor appears to be done.

Following his recent loss of the ROH World Championship at AEW Dynasty, Jericho's set to move away from the brand, according to Fightful Select. Jericho had hinted about a hiatus from AEW on the following edition of Dynamite telling fans he was "going away", but per the same report, "while we can't speak to whether or not he's actually leaving AEW TV, the plan has been for him to finish up with ROH".

His most recent feud with Bandido marked the final chapter in his latest ROH run, ending when the lucha star (eventually) dethroned Jericho in a match that would have resulted in him removing his mask hd he lost. Jericho's exit coincides with the launch of a new Fozzy tour, though it's worth noting that only one of the scheduled dates falls on a Wednesday. This means Jericho could, in theory, still appear on Dynamite (and any taped Collisions) if needed. However, there’s no indication yet of when or if he’ll return to weekly AEW programming in a prominent role.

This marks yet another transition point in Jericho’s AEW journey. Since debuting for the company during its 2019 launch, Jericho has been a pivotal figure both on-screen and behind the scenes. He was the inaugural AEW World Champion, the leader of the Inner Circle and later the Jericho Appreciation Society and The Learning Tree, and has worked with a host of the various newer names and established stars that have travelled through the organisation ever since. That, however, doesn't quite tell the whole story.

At various points in the six years of AEW's existence, Jericho's been something of a pariah figure, particularly tied to just how much of him viewers have been subjected to. There have been questions asked about just how over various wrestlers get working with him, and more than a few cases of hot acts cooling somewhat through being associated with him over extended periods of time. The character's current potential break may benefit everybody - the 54-year-old is one of the few AEW originals that's never ever taken any kind of sabbatical. In the weekly TV churn era, there's often nothing more welcome to audiences than a break.
