Chris Jericho Interview: Fozzy, “Judas”, WWE & Rock Stardom

Let’s wrap up by talking a little about Judas. The album’s lead single did extremely well for the band. What was it about that song that made it stick out and made you want to release it first?

“When I first heard the demos for the record, I heard a couple at first that I thought were OK and then grew on me. ‘Painless’ was one of them. But as soon as I heard ‘Judas’ I thought ‘That’s the album opener! It should be the first single.’ There was a little bit of a debate back and forth with the record company. I think they actually wanted ‘Painless’, but I was like ‘It’s gotta be “Judas”!’ That’s what we decided on and it looks like my instincts were correct. It’s our signature song: our ‘Enter Sandman’. It’s good that we have that.”

I want to finish with a simple question: Chris Jericho, do you consider yourself to be a rock star?

“I think calling yourself a rock star is kind of pompous, but ‘rock star’ is an attitude; it’s a feeling. It’s something that you project when you’re onstage. So, from that standpoint, absolutely! But as far as ‘Am I rich and famous from rock ‘n’ roll?’, that’s debateable, but I love playing in my band and I love the shows that we do. I love the vibe that we have, so, in that respect, yeah, I’m a rock star.”

Judas is out now via Century Media Records.
