Chris Jericho To Face NJPW Legend On Wednesday's AEW Dynamite

The next challenger for the Ocho's ROH World Title has been set.

Chris Jericho Tomohiro Ishii

This coming Wednesday's episode of AEW Dynamite will see Chris Jericho defend the ROH World Title against the legendary Tomohiro Ishii.

That match was made official during last night's Full Gear PPV, with Orange Cassidy being the one to set the bout in motion.

After Jericho had successfully retained the ROH World Championship against Bryan Danielson, Claudio Castagnoli and Sammy Guevara, a backstage interview with the Ocho was interrupted by Orange. From there, Freshly Squeezed mentioned how Ishii would be in town this week, and suggested that Jericho should face the Stone Pitbull.

Not just did the Wizard accept this offer, but Jericho also noted how Ishii was one of his young boys during the JAS man's time in Japan.

At present, Chris Jericho's reign as the ROH World Champion is driven by the Canadian wanting to face (and destroy) any and all competitors who have ever held an ROH title of any sort. On that front, Ishii fits the bill, for he had a three-month run as the ROH TV Champion back in 2016.

In addition to Jericho vs. Ishii set for Dynamite, the other confirmed matches for the next outing of AEW's weekly flagship are All-Atlantic Champion Orange Cassidy vs. Jake Hager, the second installment of the Death Triangle vs. Elite Best of Seven Series, and Ricky Starks vs. Ethan Page in the final of the AEW Title Tournament Eliminator.
