CM Punk: 10 Steps That Led To Him Quitting WWE

7. And NEW ECW Champion, Chavo Guerrero!

Chavo Guerrero CM Punk did not accomplish anything noteworthy in his reign as ECW Champion. In nearly 5 months with the belt, Punk was only afforded decisive retention victories over The Miz and the returning John Morrison. Prior to that, Punk had to skate around matches against Big Daddy V, because God forbid a non-giant like Punk score a clean pin over a repackaged monster. Punk dropped the championship on January 22, 2008, in a match as unceremonious as his title reign. Worse yet, Punk dropped the belt to Chavo Guerrero, a wrestler who never established worthwhile credibility in singles competition. This was the same Chavo Guerrero who would lose his ECW Championship to Kane at WrestleMania 24 in mere seconds. To be fair, Edge interfered in the match, so Punk did not have to lose clean. To be equally fair, however, this did not lead to Punk having a big feud with Edge with singles matches spread across multiple pay-per-views. Losing the ECW Championship at least freed Punk up to win a Money in the Bank briefcase at WrestleMania 24, which was nice, but also led to more problems.
