CM Punk: 6 Reasons His Return Will Be "Bad For Business"

2. He Puts Himself Above The Company

When Punk walked out, it was to make a statement. He did it because he knew his absence wouldn't be ignored, that by losing a fan favourite as big as him WWE would be forced into a reaction. He was the star of the show, and if things weren't going the way he thought they should be, then he would not be a part of it. The ego in that is obvious to everyone, surely? I keep coming back to that contract signing segment before Money In The Bank 2011. In fact, lets remind ourselves of it below.. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=M5u-slz48uo Its little things that you pick up on in this segment that play into real life. Punk says "Show me some damn respect, because if you don't, I leave". When John Cena comes out, he says the words "you gonna cave in to a terrorist?" which sure, plays into his whole Captain Superman Of America character, but if you carry that line over into this current situation, you've got to be honest and admit that he might have a point. If Punk has walked because he's burnt out and frustrated with the company, that's one thing. But if Punk has left on the understanding that he will come back if things change, that's something else entirely. That is saying "change how the company is run and concede to my demands or I will not be back". That is a threat as a means of coercion in order to achieve something, which has been called terrorism. I have been forced into a position where I agree with John Cena, and I do not like it! In any case, if this is Punk trying to get a reaction from the company with the threat of leaving, I think he's going to be unsuccessful. Say what you like about Vince McMahon, but when he's put into a tough spot, he refuses to knuckle under. If Punk has placed himself into this situation thinking that WWE has got to change because it cannot succeed without him, he is wrong. WWE continued without Hogan, Bret Hart and Randy Savage when they left for WCW, it continued without Shawn Michaels and Stone Cold Steve Austin when they burnt out and left, it continued without The Rock when he left for Hollywood, and it will carry on without CM Punk.
