CM Punk And MJF Have Off-Air Confrontation During AEW Dynamite
What happened on Dynamite between the AEW World Champion and his arch-nemesis off-air?
CM Punk hunted down Maxwell Jacob Friedman off-air following on from the latter's epic promo on Wednesday night's LA edition of Dynamite.
Taking aim at everything from the fickle nature of the fandom to AEW President Tony Khan's penchant for dipping his hand in his pocket for ex-WWE guys, MJF cut one of the most explosive and jaw-dropping promos of recent times in the wake of his Double or Nothing loss to Wardlow and a weekend overflowing with reports of his frustrations with the company.
Not long after MJF's climactic F-bomb had been bleeped out by TBS censors, the June 1 showing of Dynamite would then cut to black. However, the drama didn't cease simply because the All Elite cameras were off.
As caught by Twitter user @FadeAwayLeBron, new AEW World Champion CM Punk stormed to the ring shortly after MJF's cutting words, with The Salt of the Earth ultimately thinking better of the incoming exchange before bolting from the squared-circle and vacating the arena through the crowd.
Dave Meltzer of the Wrestling Observer Newsletter would later admit he felt this could be setting the stage for the latest chapter of the pair's storied rivalry, with an ALL OUT 2022 world title match making a lot of sense based on the interaction.
Punk will have to seemingly overcome a certain Hiroshi-Tanahashi-shaped hurdle before then, however, based on the Ace's arrival onto All Elite shores during that same June 1 Dynamite broadcast setting the stage for a dream bout at June 26's AEW x NJPW Forbidden Door event.
