After losing in his hometown last week, CM Punk was desperate to get a rematch against Maxwell Jacob Friedman, and he earned that shot Wednesday by defeating FTR in a tag match alongside none other than Jon Moxley.

The unlikely pairing came together thanks to MJF, who opened Dynamite gloating about his win over Punk in Chicago last week, claiming he beat him twice all on his own (and certainly not with the aid of wrist tape, Wardlow or the diamond ring the big man passed him. Punk came out and demanded another shot at MJF, who told him he could have a rematch anytime, anyplace and any stipulation if he and a partner could beat FTR.

The only caveat was that Punk couldn't team with Sting & Darby Allin, who had come out to back him up. They also were the only wrestlers Punk has teamed with since joining AEW, forcing him to find a new friend.

We got our answer an hour later, when Moxley's music hit. Mox and Punk, teaming for the first time in their careers, battled FTR in an action-packed tag bout that saw Dax Harwood & Cash Wheeler use every trick they could to stave off the two singles stars. But ultimately, Punk put Wheeler away with a GTS, which infuriated MJF.

A rematch between Punk and MJF will have a tremendous mountain to climb to top their initial encounter, which was an early Match of the Year contender.
