Shawn Michaels is openly discussing the possibility of none other than CM Punk replacing him as chief of NXT someday. HBK was careful to note that Punk wouldn't be the only choice available to WWE, and he's not even sure whether or not the comeback hero would be interested in that sort of role, but Shawn does think he'd be great at it.

Michaels told The Ringer Wrestling Show that NXT's atmosphere is "infectious". The third brand has reminded Shawn why he fell in love with pro wrestling to begin with, so he'd understand if any main roster veterans visiting developmental caught the same bug.

Punk certainly seems to have a good rapport with several NXT talents, and he's visibly had fun dropping in and interacting with Michaels on camera.

HBK did say that calling the shots on NXT would have to be "in [Punk's] heart to do". Reporting to Triple H and furnishing WWE's rosters on Raw and SmackDown with ready-made workers is a full-on gig. However, it's fascinating that this is even being discussed at all in 2024.
