CM Punk is taking his time when it comes to his professional wrestling comeback - so don't expect him to go down the Bryan Danielson route of targeting AEW's top dogs for a while.

Speaking to The Wrap's Tony Maglio, who asked Punk we fans can expect to see matches with the likes of Danielson and World Champion Kenny Omega, the 42-year-old said that you don't start a big return "pitching Game 1 of the World Series."

"I'm an artist painting my picture," Punk continued. "Let me paint my picture. What I'm doing is very calculated, it's very thought out."

Punk is currently 3-0 in AEW, having defeated Darby Allin, Powerhouse Hobbs, and Daniel Garcia since returning to wrestling on the 20 August episode of Rampage. His next match goes down this Friday night, when he meets Matt Sydal.

The former WWE Champion spoke of his desire to work with AEW's younger, up-and-coming wrestlers during a post-show press scrum held after his debut Rampage appearance. He has stayed true to that thus far, with the 30-year-old Hobbs his oldest opponent to date, though the audience's clamour for more glamorous matches will likely remain until they finally happen.
