CM Punk is back!

That looked set to be the first line of most stories following the announcement of AEW Collision at the WBD upfronts ahead of the May 17th edition of AEW Dynamite. It was the show Punk had been rumoured to have been heading up, with any reveals potentially coming in and around the news being formalised. Instead, 'The Voice Of The Voiceless' spoke long and loud on social media as rumours swirled that his impeding return was going up in smoke.

As various wrestling Twitter accounts began discussing possible snags relating to Ace Steel, The Young Bucks and Punk himself, the former AEW Champion singled out the Wrestling Observer's Bryan Alvarez for criticism before turning his aim on some of those aforementioned bird app accounts.

Taking to his Instagram stories, Punk said;

"Look everyone, Bryan alvarez doesn't like it when misinformed internet trolls make up rumors about him so please stop making up rumors and stories for clicks while Bryan makes up rumors and stories for clicks okay? He's married for gods sake! By gawd that man has a family!!! (Bryan alverez shut the f*ck up and stop talking about me challenge day 1)"

He added;

"Friendly reminder: I haven't been on tv in nine months and y'all still just can't stop talking about me. Maybe stop, you'll feel better. Love, hate, it's all the same/ I don't enjoy being the sole person that props up entire misinformed clickbait industry based on toxic gossip from lying sources, but what can you do? When you're the king, it comes with the crown."

He then posted a video message, saying that;

“The parasocial relationship a lot of fringe wrestling fans have with certain people is really unhealthy. I get the tribalism, it’s fun to root for your team, but picking sides seems a little silly. You don’t know me, you don’t know anybody else. So, go touch grass.”

More is sure to follow in the weeks ahead. Tony Khan elected not to confirm Collision's debut venue last night on Dynamite, despite news already breaking that the company had booked the United Center for the same date. He promised information next week, which may or may not be related to this latest storm.
