Cody Regains AEW TNT Title On Dynamite

'The American Nightmare' is now a two-time TNT Champion.

Cody is your new AEW TNT Champion, having defeated Mr. Brodie Lee on last night’s Dynamite to win the strap for a second time.

Greg ‘The Hammer’ Valentine watched from the stands as Cody and Brodie worked a dog collar match in keeping with the standards he and ‘Rowdy’ Roddy Piper set at Starrcade 1983. It was a brutal, bloody, war-like affair, and textbook Cody in so many ways, as the ‘American Nightmare’ took a classic stipulation’s timeless elements and updated the rest for modern tastes, incorporating spots that couldn’t have happened 37 years ago, but never betraying the gimmick’s roots.

The bout felt exhausting and horrific in all the right ways, and closed with Cody wrapping the chain around Brodie’s big skull, tightening it around the man’s teeth. This emptied what was left of Lee’s stamina bar, allowing the Cross Rhodes and the 1-2-3.

An emotional post-match promo saw Cody vow to never turn his back on his loyal supporters, setting up a title defence against Orange Cassidy for next week’s show in the process.

Lee was TNT Champion for 55 days, having taken it from Cody in a lopsided hammering on 13 August. His reign brought successful defences against Cassidy and Dustin Rhodes.
