Cody Rhodes: 10 Legacy Moments In AEW
9. Smashing The Throne
When Cody left WWE he began to forge his own future. Through All In, to the creation of AEW alongside The Young Bucks, Kenny Omega, and Tony Khan, Rhodes was making his father proud as he created a new legacy with the family name.
Wanting to break away from his WWE past - and some of the people he left behind in the company - Rhodes chose something symbolic ahead of his now-infamous brother vs brother match at All Or Nothing 2019 in Las Vegas.
With fans believing that Cody may act in a way similar to the reputation the HHH gained in WWE, putting himself over other talents, Rhodes devised a playful - yet powerful - nod towards his former colleague.
Appearing with a throne similar to that of HHH’s from WrestleMania 30, Rhodes proceeded to break the shackles of the past by destroying the throne with a sledgehammer - yet another nod back to a former life. A moment that truly popped the crowd and one which Rhodes later admitted was not only symbolic as he showed that AEW was the competition, but also one which appealed to the fan in him. Rhodes admitted to Chris Van Vliet in the post show media scrum that he thought that HHH entrance was “cool”.
