Stories continue to swirl about Cody's next steps, but still a lot of open questions.

Another week has passed, and once again there are multiple rumors but nothing concrete about Cody Rhodes' future three weeks after he announced that he and AEW parted ways. That includes the once-certain return to WWE.

Fightful Select reports that Cody himself is very aware of multiple stories about where he could land, but he wouldn't provide any confirmation or detail, saying, "I logged on earlier and saw some wild stuff - these are mad times." When asked to elaborate, he sent Fightful a picture of his dogs.

After a flurry of stories in the days after the official announcement that he and AEW couldn't reach an agreement, Cody's camp lately has been downplaying possible destinations. WWE was the clear frontrunner, but in the past week, those prospects reportedly have diminished. Fightful asked WWE sources, who indicated that they never specifically were told he was coming to the company, but they'd heard chatter about a possible Rhodes/Seth Rollins match at WrestleMania 38. (This could explain Seth's despondent look on Raw Monday night as he still doesn't have an opponent for the big show.)

Interestingly, Fightful notes that the potential Mania match is "uncertain" on the creative end, but this is the same company that had Brock Lesnar's opponent at Madison Square Garden last weekend listed as "TBD," so it's always possible things come together and are just being kept secretive.

The outlet also was told that there would be "something worth looking out for" on Cody's future in the Hollywood trades, but it wasn't clear whether that has anything to do with wrestling or Rhodes to the Top.

As for the other stories about WWE talks "fizzling out," Cody possibly going to Ring of Honor or somewhere else, there's just a bunch of no comments or no new developments. With Rhodes being possibly the top free agent on the market, these updates and speculation will continue until he's locked down.
