10. "WWF Betrayal" (Game Boy Color) 2001
The Game Goy Color was even less capable as the Game Boy Advance, so its newest WWF game would have a lot to do to stand out. WWF Betrayal was a completely different approach to a WWF game on the handheld console. Perhaps realizing that the other installments of handheld wrestling games were substandard, this time they went with a side scrolling beat 'em up game instead of the usual wrestling sim. The game is loosely based on the 1999 storyline where the Corporate Ministry kidnapped Stephanie McMahon. In it, Stephanie is kidnapped and Vince McMahon orders that whoever can get her back will earn a WWF Title Shot. Playing as HHH, the Rock, Stone Cold or the Undertaker, players were tasked with fighting through a number of side scrolling levels to eventually save the billion-dollar princess. Graphics were passable for the Game Boy color but the wrestler character models were weird caricatures of their real selves with Austin wearing strange bicycle shorts instead of his usual ring gear. Attacks were limited to a few strikes and each wrestlers finishing move, while enemies were a weird mix of referees and other odd enemies, with level bosses being the other wrestlers you didn't choose to play as. Although it should be praised for trying something new, Streets of Rage it is not. Betrayal proved to be a particularly bland beat 'em up which didn't take any time at all to complete.
