2022 has not been a good year for women's tag titles in WWE.

Just two months after Sasha Banks & Naomi were stripped of the WWE Women's Tag Team Championship after walking out of the company, Cora Jade threw her half of the NXT women's tag titles in the refuse bin Tuesday night on NXT 2.0. The move was evocative of the infamous moment when Madusa dropped the WWF Women's Championship into the trash live on WCW Nitro in December 1995.

Jade turned on her tag partner Roxanne Perez last week during Perez's NXT Women's Championship match against champ Mandy Rose, which came just one week after the pair had defeated Toxic Attraction for the tag straps.

With Cora trashing her half of the tag titles and Roxanne not on NXT this week, it's probably safe to assume that the NXT Women's Tag Team Championship will be vacated. However, no mention of the status of the tag titles was made on the rest of the program, and as of late Tuesday night, WWE.com still listed Jade & Perez as tag champs.

The WWE women's tag titles are still vacant two months after the company announced a forthcoming tournament to crown new champs. However, that was not a planned vacancy. Jade turning on Perez is a storyline, so you'd have to assume that NXT writers anticipated the women's tag titles being vacated and would have a plan to fill them. Time will tell if that's the case.
