AJ Styles has admitted he was left totally "surprised" by just how good John Cena was/is in-ring.

Wrestling machine Styles told 'The Halftime Show' that he kinda figured he'd be "the superior wrestler" when he matched up with JC for matches towards the start of his WWE run. That...wasn't necessarily the case, which shocked AJ.

He'd bought into the idea that Cena was a body guy who was also really great at promos without being special between the ropes. Styles found out firsthand that John, if put in there with the right opponent and the right motivation, could be one hell of a pro wrestler.

Together, the pair had several top matches.

AJ also confessed that he "didn't know what [he] was getting [himself] into" when WWE programmed him opposite Cena. It didn't seem like it'd be a neat fit, but things worked out well and Styles looks back on those matches with John as some of the best of his entire career.

That's really saying something, because AJ has wrestled some of the best workers on the planet since exploding onto the TNA scene in 2002.
