Dax Harwood Reveals AEW "Super Group" That Was Discussed
Prior to the Pinnacle, THIS faction could've been something seen on AEW programming.
AEW's Dax Harwood has revealed how there was at one point tentative discussions of bringing him, Cash Wheeler, Cody Rhodes and Brock Anderson together as a faction.
Speaking on the latest edition of the excellent FTR with Dax Harwood podcast (via WrestlingNews.co), Dax noted how he and Cash had talks with Cody about forming a unit together, and how Brock Anderson was another name he envisioned being a part of this outfit.
As Harwood explained:
"I will say though, we did talk to Cody a lot about forming a group with him, and this was before [MJF] came along. We talked to Cody a lot about it. He had Arn [Anderson], we had Tully [Blanchard], and we wanted to create the super group with Cody, us two, and we had some ideas of who could be the other members. I think around that time, Brock was starting to come up too. We felt that if Brock were with us, he could stand outside of the ring and watch us, and if we had eight-man tags, he would be able to learn by standing on the apron, getting in just for a few minutes and tagging back out. Then we could talk to him afterwards and tell him why certain things happened and, you know, stuff like that. We really wanted [to do this], and I think Cody wanted to as well, but I think Cody was vehemently against being a heel, at least at that time."
This topic came up due to this latest episode of FTR with Dax Harwood being titled The Rise and Fall of the Pinnacle, and Dax discussed the above being something prior to the formation of the ill-fated Pinnacle faction that aligned FTR and Tully Blanchard with MJF, Wardlow and Shawn Spears; though Spears was already being managed by Tully at that time.
The Pinnacle formed on the 10 March 2021 outing for AEW Dynamite, laying waste to Chris Jericho and his Inner Circle cohorts. Despite a promising start and clear talent amongst its ranks, the Pinnacle slowly fizzled out as 2021 went on. That said, the stable never formally broke up, but more it was a case of its members began to appear separately on AEW programming and minimal references were made to the Pinnacle.
As for Dax Harwood, his pro wrestling future is at a crossroads, as he and long-time partner Cash Wheeler's AEW contracts expire in April, and Dax has been extremely open in detailing how he and Cash need to decide whether to stay with AEW, return to WWE, or look to ply their trade elsewhere.
