Dolph Ziggler On WWE Hiatus, Not In Royal Rumble
Incredible run of consecutive Rumbles comes to a close.
Dolph Ziggler is in Phoenix, AZ today - but he won't be competing in tonight's Royal Rumble. He simply lives there.
Chris Van Vliet visited The Showoff's home for a chin wag, during which the latter revealed that he will not be participating in the annual 30-man melee. Ziggler's omission breaks an incredible run of ten consecutive Rumble appearances - albeit none of them producing a single victory.
Ziggler entered last year's Rumble in the number 30 spot as though it was nothing, despite having announced he was 'quitting' the company some weeks earlier. It was a little strange.
During the interview, Ziggler confirmed he is currently on hiatus from WWE as he focuses on his comedy career. He refused to be drawn on whether his time with the company is coming to a close, skirting the issue with a simple "we'll see."
"It took me like ten years to get a weekend off and this is it," joked Ziggler. He's a comedian.
Dolph also dismissed that he might be shifted upstairs into a producer role:
"If WWE is keeping me around, it will be as a wrestler. I won't be a producer for at least ten years."
Ziggler recently sparked interest on social media by seeming to respond to rumours he was leaving, whilst also changing his handle to his birth name - though that's likely simply to facilitate comedy bookings he can't accept under the WWE trademark.
