Edge Bringing Back Old Gimmick For WWE Return?

A merchandise line may hold the clue to Edge's impending WWE return.

Edge's seemingly imminent return to WWE television may involve a gimmick change.

Bryan Alvarez reported on Wrestling Observer Live that WWE has put together a batch of 'Rated R Superstar' merchandise, suggesting that the Hall of Famer may be on the verge of reprising his most successful character.

While there's no concrete word on whether he would be doing so as a face or heel, recent booking would suggest the former. Edge had been operating as a heel as The Judgment Day's leader prior to his deposal as leader on the 6 June episode of Raw. Damian Priest, Rhea Ripley, and Finn Balor destroyed him with a ConChairTo-led assault that night, putting sympathy on Edge for a triumphant comeback.

Nothing has been confirmed yet, though WWE has at least put plans together for Edge to return at next week's Raw in New York City's iconic Madison Square Garden. The promotion has built to this through a series of mysterious vignettes airing regularly on Monday nights.

Birthed in the wake of his controversial live sex celebration with Lita, Edge's 'Rated R Superstar' guise helped take him to the top of the pile in WWE. That year saw him notch his first two runs as a World Champion in the promotion, amongst other successes.
