WWE Hall of Famer Edge made his highly anticipated return on last night's Friday Night SmackDown on FOX.

As Roman Reigns took to the squared-circle to give his State of the Universal Title Address on the latest edition of the blue show, the champ and Paul Heyman boasted about how the former had completely cleaned out the main event scene on Friday nights. Then, just before the two had the chance to follow-up on being forced to apparently do something they'd never done before, a very familiar theme song blasted through the ThunderDome speakers.

Edge, making his first WWE appearance since being stacked by Reigns at WrestleMania 37, went straight after the Universal Champion, threatening to give him a sickening con-chair-to and successfully fending off Jimmy Uso as well.

Reigns would manage to flee the scene before taking the aforementioned move, but both he and his cousin ate a spear each, with the latter's coming through a barricade, for their troubles.

It now appears that Edge is one of the unexpected frontrunners to challenge for Reigns' belt at Money in the Bank on July 18. The former World Champion is also rumoured to be heading into a clash against Seth Rollins, another star angling to be his former Shield partner's next opponent, at this year's SummerSlam event on August 21, too.
