Edge's 10 Greatest WWE Moments
Celebrating Edge's career five years after his premature retirement.
April 11th marked the five-year anniversary of Edge's official retirement from WWE. It goes without saying that Adam Copeland's exit from the professional wrestling business came far too soon.
As a marquee performer since 2005, the Rated-R Superstar was still on top of his game - and the World Heavyweight Champion - when he was forced to retire from wrestling due to years of physical punishment on his neck specifically.
Prior to No Way Out in 2003, Edge suffered a severe broken neck that sidelined him for over a year. As Edge put it, he was "wrestling on borrowed time from that point on" after undergoing in-depth spinal fusion surgery.
Wrestling in a significant amount of pain and beginning to lose feeling in his arms in 2011, Edge was sent for more extensive tests, during which an MRI result revealed the true extent of the life-altering injury.
The decision to induct Edge into the 2012 Hall of Fame was met with some confusion, but there is no doubt he is one of the most decorated performers in the history of the business.
From participating in innovative matches to holding the World Heavyweight Championship a record seven times, there are very few who have accomplished what Edge has. His status as a WWE legend - even as a 37-year-old retiree - is unquestionable.
Five years after announcing his retirement, we celebrate the incredible singles career of the 31-time WWE championship holder by highlighting the Rated-R Supestar's 10 greatest moments.
10. 2004 Singles Heel Turn
Edge's heel turn in the twilight of 2004 may have seemed insignificant at the time, but it marked the beginning of what would become one of the best singles runs in the history of WWE.
The turn was fueled by Edge's growing resentment, most prominently not being voted by the WWE fans for a World Heavyweight Championship match at Taboo Tuesday. Instead being voted into a World Tag Team Championship match with Chris Benoit as his partner, Edge abandoned Benoit during both that night's title match - which Benoit won on his own - and a rematch on Raw the next month.
Further than just being a heel turn, Edge adopted new attire, music and a completely different gimmick, planting the seeds for the Rated-R Superstar persona we all knew and loved. If it wasn't for this heel turn, Edge would have never accomplished half of what he did as a singles performer.
