When you are the first to do anything in WWE, it generally means you are written into the history books. As the first ever winner of the Money in the Bank briefcase, Edge established an alternative path into the title picture, one that strayed from the traditional route.

The cash in was booked perfectly by WWE, who deceived the fans into believing it wouldn't occur on the night of New Year's Revolution in 2006 by having Edge face off against Ric Flair.

To the audience's disbelief, Edge handed over the briefcase to Vince McMahon and defeated a bloodied John Cena, who had retained his WWE Championship during that night's Elimination Chamber match.

Edge's first major championship victory marked the end of nine months in possession of the briefcase and the beginning of landscape shift. Including Edge, there have been 16 cash-in attempts to date, 14 of which have resulted in titles changing hands.

Overly-opinionated Australian WWE smark who is definitely not #booty. Slowly angering the IWC one article at a time. We will probably strongly dislike each other - let's be friends! @MattKMarsden
