Every AEW PPV Ranked From Worst To Best
9. Double Or Nothing 2020
Not quite the best AEW pay-per-view, but certainly the most miraculous - even more so than the prior year's edition.
The first major show held amid the pandemic, AEW didn't no sell-it. They recognised that the situation was overwhelming depressing, and that the usual formula just wouldn't hit. Instead, knowing they could always resume normal service, AEW embraced levity and deranged creativity by using empty space as a canvas.
The vitality of Stadium Stampede's beaming fusion of wackiness and actually incredible wrestling sold and stole the show, but the rest of the card was worthy of the $50, despite Austin Gunn and Big Swole substituting for a five-figure crowd.
MJF Vs. Jungle Boy was a total banger worked with the furious competitive spirit of two young men at identical stages of their career. Jon Moxley and Brodie Lee subverted the clichéd kick-out face near-fall to electrifyingly brutal effect. Hikaru Shida and Nyla Rose battered f*ck out of each other in a cracking plunder brawl.
It wasn't perfect - the middle portion sagged, the Shawn Spears comedy bit failed, and the Casino Ladder match went much too long - but it wasn't even meant to be possible.
