Seeing Edge return to the SmackDown brand - which he helped put on the map during the Ruthless Aggression Era - was a dream come true for many. With that being said, his triumphant return to wrestling for the blue brand didn't make this match any more than a run of the mill piece of build-up for his upcoming WrestleMania 37 main event.

Jey and Edge had a decent sense of speed and strong storytelling, with Jey working Edge's ribs and Edge responding in kind by going after his arm. However, there was still plenty of clumsiness in this match that stopped it from feeling smooth. Some weak strikes and a few minor miscommunications showed that the pair's chemistry wasn't entirely on-point.

Even in big spots like Edge's hurricanrana from the top rope, there was an apparent lack of finesse, as neither were putting on a pay-per-view level performance. It was still a cut above the rest regarding TV matches made to build further encounters, but it was a TV match nonetheless.

The fact that these two had such a decent encounter despite not being at their best proves how talented they are but didn't do much to stand out in Edge's post-return resume.
