What a difference a year makes. Twelve months earlier Alundra Blayze was defending her WWF Women's Championship against Bull Nakano, one of the most respected and feared wrestlers of her generation, regardless of gender.

By SummerSlam 1995 the company had all but given up on the women's division and Blayze found herself defending the same belt against Bertha Faye, the brutal Monster Ripper whom the WWF had repackaged as a comedy aside managed by Harvey Wippleman and told not to perform the power moves that had made her such a hit in Japan.

This is five forgettable minutes that ends with Faye winning the title to the joy of absolutely no one. Well, no one except Wippleman, which means it was a bust. A month or so later Blayze won the title back, and before you could say 'Harvey Wippleman's Wipple Man' she was on Nitro dumping the title into a bin.

Born in the middle of Wales in the middle of the 1980's, John can't quite remember when he started watching wrestling but he has a terrible feeling that Dino Bravo was involved. Now living in Prague, John spends most of his time trying to work out how Tomohiro Ishii still stands upright. His favourite wrestler of all time is Dean Malenko, but really it is Repo Man. He is the author of 'An Illustrated History of Slavic Misery', the best book about the Slavic people that you haven't yet read. You can get that and others from www.poshlostbooks.com.
