Presented as an architect of the independent scene that AEW sought to celebrate, Matt's appearance held a dual purpose. It was a touching thank you gesture, but also a means of introducing MJF as a sh*thead heel prodigy who had no respect for those who paved the way. Their match could have used a more explicit build, in truth.

He's still plugging away on the indies, respected enough for Alex Shelly to do a job for him in March of this year.
