Again, slight cheating here. Teeeeechnically, Bill Goldberg's WWE contract lapsed at the tail end of 2022, but the ex-WCW favourite probably expected to be picked right back up heading into 2023. That didn't happen, but fans weren't made aware that Goldberg was officially gone until Fightful dropped the news in March.

That, rather predictably, led to rumours that Goldberg would show up in AEW as Tony Khan's next bombshell signing. Khan expressed admiration for Bill publicly, but hasn't thrashed out any terms on a deal yet. WWE is in the same boat - they'll be pleased that Goldberg enjoyed a renaissance, but it's probably time to move on.

In 2023, they did. Officially.
