A spiritual sequel to the chaotic Rock/Steve Austin WWE Title match one year earlier, the Backlash 2000 main event perhaps represents the entire organisation at it's critical and commercial peak.

Natural rivals, 'The Great One' and 'The Game' engaged in an energetic war performed in front of an endlessly nuclear crowd desperately clamouring for Rock to take the title after his WrestleMania failure one month prior.

The move to end the 'Show of Shows' with heel Triple H on top was a controversial one at the time, but proved an incredibly shrewd move when buyrates revealed how willing fans still were to see The Rock finally dethrone his hated adversary.

It was at WrestleMania where the McMahons (excluding Linda) came together in a plot to destroy 'The Most Electrifying Man in Sports Entertainment', with their strength in numbers appearing too great for Rock yet again as Vince, Shane, Stephanie, Gerald Brisco and Pat Patterson all joined Triple H in destroying him with their collective force.

A promised one-off appearance of Stone Cold Steve Austin had been masterfully delayed all evening by the company, but he arrived just in time, viciously taking a chair to the head of virtually every corporate team member with the exception of the 'Billion Dollar Princess'.

That honour fell to Linda McMahon, who aped her Husband's heroic return the previous year by bringing Earl Hebner to register victory for The Rock, shoving her spoilt offspring down in the process.

Austin, Rock and a wild crowd celebrated their collective victory in a powerful closing scene.
