A brief reign alongside Rey Mysterio was an effort in nobility for World Champion Batista in 2005 as the company tried to work through the death of Eddie Guerrero on and off screen.

Mysterio and Batista were both tied to the late Guerrero thanks to friendships that extended far beyond their on-screen love-hate relationships with the fallen star. Their reign together felt as much like an opportunity to get through the immediate aftermath of his passing.
