Vengeance 2011’s Last Man Standing match between Alberto Del Rio and John Cena was very much a product of the PG era. Even so, it was still a perfectly enjoyable contest.

This one may not have had any of the blood-and-guts violence of the early matches in this stipulation’s history, but there were plenty of dangerous spots throughout, including Del Rio falling through a table having been hanging off of the stage.

The backstage brawl was another fun addition, but what really made this one stand out was that it took place in a ring with no ropes! After the Big Show and Mark Henry’s colossal superplex had seen the turnbuckles give out, Del Rio and Cena were forced to make the best of a bad situation.

Interference from The Miz and R-Truth may have been something of a blemish, but at least that was a way of booking Cena into a rare, and somewhat unexpected, PPV defeat.
