In 2013, Daniel Bryan went from entertaining underdog to fully-fledged fan favourite. The American Dragon had made an unlikely success of a tag team with Kane but went on to pursue his true goal: becoming the WWE World Heavyweight Champion.

In an epic main event which featured Triple H as the Special Guest Referee, Daniel Bryan overcame John Cena and basked in the adulation from the audience.

Having won the Money in the Bank the previous month, Randy Orton stalked to the ring to taunt the new champion. With Bryan’s back turned, Triple H delivered a Pedigree, turning heel. Randy entered the ring, dropped to his knees and pinned the toppled Dragon.

With Bryan losing the belt so quickly after such a hard-fought contest, the audience bubbled with vitriol. The Game and The Viper had just become the two biggest heels in the promotion.

Despite cutting him off at the knees, Bryan’s popularity would grow immensely, sparking the ‘Yes Movement.’ This cash-in was the beginning of last legendary storyline in WWE, which would culminate at WrestleMania XXX with Daniel Bryan as the people’s champion.
