Every WWE Royal Rumble 'Final Four' - From Worst To Best

12. 2006 - Rob Van Dam, Triple H, Randy Orton & Rey Mysterio

Ah, yes, 2006, the year Rey Mysterio played Eddie Guerrero. Zoom in about 150x on Rey's armband, that's pretty much what watching this match feels like. Okay, maybe I'm being too harsh. WWE's exploitation of Eddie's death never sat well with me, and Rey Mysterio deserved a Rumble victory that was truly his own, not a commercial for Latino Heat's legacy. Still, the assortment of competitors was poetic. Alongside Rey was his former tag partner Rob Van Dam, himself a beloved star that had never been taken too seriously by WWE. Across the ring from them were Triple H and Randy Orton, the prototypical, homogenized, safe WWE Superstars. Rey outlasted them after wearing them down and stood revealed as the fans' choice to carry the company forward. That never really came to fruition, but it's still a wonderful moment for the ultimate underdog.
