Something of a Royal Rumble by numbers, the 2013 edition of the event still brings forward a number of enjoyable moments and fun memories. John Cena won the thing by eliminating Ryback last, which pretty much ruined the result of the CM Punk/Rock main event, but it made sense from a booking and profitability point of view. The match started with a genuine surprise in the return of Chris Jericho, something nobody saw coming at the time. He opened the match with rival Dolph Ziggler, the Zig Man lasting an impressive 49 minutes to make the final four. Jericho put in a great performance too, lasting 47 himself before being tossed by his rival in the opening duo. Elsewhere there were good performances from Sheamus and Ryback, both of whom eliminated five combatants. Kofi Kingston continued his tradition of evading elimination via creativity, using a chair like a pogo stick to get back into the ring. The dissension between Team Hell No was also advanced, Kane catching Daniel Bryan outside the ring before dumping him to the floor in revenge for Bryan eliminating him moments earlier.
Born in the middle of Wales in the middle of the 1980's, John can't quite remember when he started watching wrestling but he has a terrible feeling that Dino Bravo was involved. Now living in Prague, John spends most of his time trying to work out how Tomohiro Ishii still stands upright. His favourite wrestler of all time is Dean Malenko, but really it is Repo Man. He is the author of 'An Illustrated History of Slavic Misery', the best book about the Slavic people that you haven't yet read. You can get that and others from www.poshlostbooks.com.
