Every WWE Royal Rumble Match - From Worst To Best

21. 2012

The internet is one of the greatest inventions in the history of mankind, but it sure has resulted in some silly decisions made in the world of professional wrestling. Ahead of the 2012 Royal Rumble Chris Jericho had made his return to the WWE and seemed set to win the match. Jericho is an all-time legend and would have been a deserving winner for sure. The problem was that everyone knew it was going to happen, so a 'shocking' move was made. The match came down to Jericho and Sheamus, and the two proceeded to put on a decent little match within a match to bring it to a close. Shockingly, Sheamus managed to eliminate Jericho with a Brogue Kick, allowing him to point at the WrestleMania sign with confidence. Jericho would still get his title shot at Mania against CM Punk, whereas Sheamus would open the big event with the infamous 18-second 'match' against Daniel Bryan. This subsequent booking decision made the Rumble feel more like a non-event than ever. The rest of the match was plagued by too much reliance on comedy and non-wrestling combatants, including all three members of the commentary team.

Born in the middle of Wales in the middle of the 1980's, John can't quite remember when he started watching wrestling but he has a terrible feeling that Dino Bravo was involved. Now living in Prague, John spends most of his time trying to work out how Tomohiro Ishii still stands upright. His favourite wrestler of all time is Dean Malenko, but really it is Repo Man. He is the author of 'An Illustrated History of Slavic Misery', the best book about the Slavic people that you haven't yet read. You can get that and others from www.poshlostbooks.com.
