Every WWE Smackdown Intro Ranked – From Worst To Best

13. 2016 (current)

Maybe I’m getting a little caught up in this New Era business, but surely that’s a good thing? Supporting the current product and all that jazz.

In all seriousness though, despite its newness to WWE programming, this intro already has a whole lot going for it. There’s a subtle homage to the old SmackDown fist at the very start, which hooks you in and kind of gets you curious to know where or what this giant plasma fist is hurtling towards.

Also, the lyrics to the song sound very relevant for both the SmackDown brand and its current state. Lines such as “they said we’re lucky to have got this far” and “it’s time to rise up even though they left us for dead” ring fairly true for the way SmackDown has often been regarded, while there’s plenty of war imagery in keeping with this Brand Split and the competition its engendered.

Whether intentional or not, this intro almost tells a story in itself, making it worth a pretty decent ranking in my eyes. And ears.
