Criminally underrated by both audiences and critics, Dead Man Down is a visually impressive, well-acted revenge thriller with a fine sense of time and place.

It's worth mentioning from the outset that Wade Barrett has a totally forgettable role here as a villainous henchman, so don't get too excited for him to be dropping any bad news or anything.

Still, Colin Farrell and Noomi Rapace make for a compelling pairing, the action is ably handled by The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo director Niels Arden Oplev, and it boasts plenty of personality to differentiate it from the literally hundreds of thrillers hitting cinemas ever year. Give it a try.
