Just a face in the crowd, or something more?

Former NXT wrestler Cezar Bononi made an unexpected appearance on last night's AEW Dynamite.

The Brazilian was seen in the crowd during last night's show, seemingly having a good time as he stood alongside other performers on the heel side of the divide, with the following clip showing him (white shirt) getting into it as Hikaru Shida and Penelope Ford faced off prior to the former's match with Red Velvet:-

There is no indication that Bononi has signed (or is on the verge of signing) with AEW at the time of writing.

Perhaps the 34-year-old could have been there for a spot on next week's episode of Dark, as AEW frequently uses their web series to try new wrestlers out in enhancement bouts. Nonetheless, Bononi is currently on the market after leaving WWE as part of the promotion's Black Wednesday releases, though his name wasn't included with the original round of cuts on 15 April and confirmation didn't come until two days later.

Bononi had been with WWE since October 2015. He had struggled to make a mark in NXT, never breaking through as a featured performer, with his last televised appearance going down in May 2019.
