Former WWE Tag Team FINALLY Returning
After a two-year absence, this ex-WWE tag team is finally coming back.
After a more-than-two-year absence from wrestling, the Authors of Pain could be on their way back to the ring in the coming months.
The former NXT and Raw tag champs were among the multitude of wrestlers released during the height of the pandemic, getting their walking papers in September 2020. However, they hadn't wrestled since March of that year due to an injury to Akam. That was one of the more shocking releases of the year, as the duo seemingly had what Vince McMahon would want in a heel tag team.
Almost just as surprising, the duo haven't wrestled a single match since that March 2020 Raw bout.
But Fightful Select reports that Akam and Rezar have reached out to other performers about an event they are planning for early June in Dubai. Sources indicated that the pair do plan to wrestle at this event. In addition to their first potential match since March 2020, this would also be their first non-WWE contest.
Previously, Rezar has told a reporter that he was no longer a wrestler, while a promoter who tried to book AOP were told they had retired. Once those reports had surfaced, the Authors and former manager Paul Ellering said they weren't finished yet, but no plans had surfaced until this one.
It obviously remains to be seen if this proposed June event in Dubai takes place, but if the Authors of Pain do make a return to wrestling, it could be interesting to see if it's a one-time deal or if they get the itch again, or if other promotions take notice and an interest.
