Former WWE Wrestler Re-Hired In New Role
Another week, another behind-the-scenes appointment for WWE.
WWE has hired James Yun as a producer, writes Dave Meltzer in this week's edition of the Wrestling Observer Newsletter.
The 40-year-old competed primarily as Jimmy Yang, Jimmy Wang Yang, and Akio throughout his wrestling career, and started in his new role at this week's episode of Raw.
Though he has barely wrestled since 2013, Yun has worked a number of independent dates teaming with daughter Jazzy Yang in 2021, the most recent of which went down at ACTION's Founders Day Festival on 1 October. His last televised appearance with a major American promotion came in June 2011, when he reprised his old Flying Elvis gimmick at a set of TNA television tapings.
Yun made his name as part of the Jung Dragons trio in WCW before joining WWE following Vince McMahon's acquisition of Ted Turner's promotion in March 2001. He was released the following January but brought back in 2003, forging a new identity as Akio, before returning from an eight-month stint in Ring Of Honor as Jimmy Wang Yang (a cowboy gimmick) in May 2006.
That final run lasted until April 2010, when Yun was released once more. He currently runs a wrestling school, Pro Training, LLC, in Cincinnati, Ohio.
