Fraxiom Almost Split Up With Hair vs. Mask Match (WWE News)

Both Nathan Frazer and Axiom pleaded with WWE higher ups before jumping to SmackDown.

Nathan Frazer has revealed that his tag-team with Axiom, collectively known as Fraxiom, came scarily close to ending before they'd even made it to WWE's main roster as a SmackDown duo. Frazer told the 'No Contest Wrestling Podcast' that one of the original plans in place for the team at NXT's Stand & Deliver event on 19 April was actually a 'Hair vs. Mask' match.

Presumably, the pair would've lost their NXT Tag-Team Titles before that event - they dropped the belts to Hank Walker and Tank Ledger at Stand & Deliver, which ended a fun 230-day reign as champs.

Behind the scenes, both members of Fraxiom fought tooth and nail to keep the team together. Frazer begged WWE: "Don't do it", but called this creative plan "the North Star that everyone agreed on". Eventually, Shawn Michaels and the rest of the NXT creative team agreed that it was probably best if they kept the pair together as a unit.

Obviously, Frazer's long flowing locks and Axiom's trusty mask would've been on the line had WWE gone through with this booking. It probably wouldn't have been as much of a disaster for Nathan had he shed the hair. Axiom is much, much, much better off with the mask though.

Luckily, Fraxiom were able to convince management that they should keep going as a team even after dropping the NXT Tag straps, and they were quickly moved up to SmackDown on the 25 April episode. Frazer and Axiom then went on a mini-run of victories before eventually challenging for tag gold.

Main Roster Success Is Surely Incoming

The Street Profits defeated Fraxiom in that title bout on the 23 May episode of SmackDown, but the high-flying pair stayed in the title mix long enough to be involved in a beefy 6-team TLC match at SummerSlam in early-August. They've since been downplayed slightly as Triple H focuses on The Wyatt Sicks as leaders of the doubles vision on Friday nights.

Surely it's only a matter of time before Frazer and Axiom have their moment? They were doing excellent work in developmental for NXT, and they burst onto the scene with several spectacular matches on SmackDown. Rewarding that effort with a tag title run makes sense, especially once Hunter moves on from The Sicks as champions.

The 'Hair vs. Mask' idea might be something WWE comes back to in the long run. It'll be interesting to find out whether the writers go with Frazer or Axiom turning heel on the other, because both play the role of happy-go-lucky babyfaces well.
