GLOW Review: 7 Ups And 2 Downs

2. The Humour Doesn't Always Land

The show is a fairly broad church when it comes to comedy, and as such attempts a variety of different jokes. It leads to a lot of laughs, but not everything it attempts comes off.

The early episodes are where the more egregious examples of this can be found, as the series does take a couple of instalments to find its footing. One of the early running jokes is about Brie being too unconventional looking which, even with the use of make-up, is impossible to buy.

Maron's Sam gets a lot of the best lines, but because of his character's nature he also says, well, absolutely anything. A lot of the time it works, but there are instances when it falls flat. The worst example is an entire fake miscarriage storyline played for laughs, which is bizarre, uncomfortable, and doesn't work at all. While always fun, GLOW isn't always funny.
