During a Q&A session with Jimmy Hart at Atlantic City's Hard Rock Hotel & Casino this past week, Ric Flair made the devastating announcement that the legendary Harley Race was fighting for his life after being diagnosed with terminal lung cancer.

Yesterday afternoon, Championship Wrestling from Hollywood promoter David Marquez confirmed the sad news, but provided a hopeful update.

Marquez wrote on Twitter that Race's family had told him the diagnosis was not terminal:

I’ve just spoke to Harley Race’s family and yes he has been diagnosed with Lung Cancer but it’s not terminal. He’s being treated and supervised by his doctors. He is still very active in @worldleaguewlw and appreciates everyone’s concerns.

Race, 75, has suffered from mounting health problems as a consequence of his many years in the ring, having underwent surgery both on his neck and back, as well as multiple hip and knee replacements.

In 2017, he fractured his right tibia and broke his left tibia and fibula following a fall at home. He required four blood transfusions during the subsequent surgery.

Missourian Race began his six-decade long involvement with pro-wrestling back in 1960, eventually going on to claim gold just about everywhere he went. He is one of just six men inducted into the WWE, NWA, Professional Wrestling and Wrestling Observer Newsletter Hall of Fames.

We here at WhatCulture.com send our wishes in his latest battle.

Benjamin was born in 1987, and is still not dead. He variously enjoys classical music, old-school adventure games (they're not dead), and walks on the beach (albeit short - asthma, you know). He's currently trying to compile a comprehensive history of video game music, yet denies accusations that he purposefully targets niche audiences. He's often wrong about these things.
