Recently released ex-WWE star Heath Slater has revealed that his "I Got Kids" catchphrase was never supposed to happen.

In an interview with Chris Van Vliet, Slater said that he froze during his promo segment opposite Brock Lesnar and Paul Heyman on the 15 August 2016 episode of Raw. Unsure what to say, Heath blurted out something about his kids, and that ended up being his go-to line from that point on.

"I forgot my next line", he giggled.

Slater thinks Vince McMahon might've heard the improvised promo backstage, thought it was seriously "obnoxious" and then decided to make it part of Heath's act going forwards. At the time, he didn't think much of it and was just glad he managed to say something and didn't make a fool of himself on live TV.

"I Got Kids" ended up being so popular that Slater bagged his very first t-shirt as a singles star in WWE. He even managed to ride the crest of the sympathetic babyface wave all the way to SmackDown - he and Rhyno were the very first SmackDown Tag-Team Champions, winning the belts at Backlash that September.

Heath's botch worked out pretty well for him.
