A resounding critical success on the night, AEW X NJPW Forbidden Door has become an objective business triumph too.

AEW CEO and founder Tony Khan tweeted the 26 June event's numbers on Tuesday. In addition to bringing in over $1 million in ticket sales, which was already known, Khan stated that Forbidden Door accrued more than $5 million in pay-per-view revenue.

Around 16,000 fans were in attendance at Chicago, Illinois' United Center for Forbidden Door. The show's initial allocation of 11,000 tickets sold out within 40 minutes of going on sale on 5 May. Further seats were then made available, boosting the final figure.

Forbidden Door is the second AEW-branded pay-per-view to draw a $1 million gate. The first, Double Or Nothing 2022, brought in $1.1 million on 29 May.

Early projections suggest that Forbidden Door did more than 100,000 pay-per-view buys. If accurate, it will become the seventh consecutive AEW supercard to do so, with the CM Punk-boosted All Out 2021 still the high point at 201,000.

The first true collaborative card between AEW and business partners NJPW is now expected to become an annual fixture. Earlier this week, NJPW President Takami Ohbari spoke of his desire to bring the second one to Japan.
