How AEW Signed Jake 'The Snake' Roberts

Was THIS WCW legend responsible for Jake joining AEW?

Jake The Snake Roberts
AEW

Jake 'The Snake' Roberts mounted a shocking wrestling return on this week's episode of AEW Dynamite, confronting Cody in the ring after 'The American Nightmare' had called out MJF.

The acclaimed segment saw Roberts not only rip Cody for "crying like a b*tch" after losing to MJF at Revolution, but promise that "the dark side is coming to AEW," and confirm that he's bringing a new client to the promotion to war with Cody. Roberts was tremendous. Though his vocal delivery is different now, the aura remains.

Dave Meltzer has a writeup on Jake's big return in this week's edition of the Wrestling Observer Newsletter. In it, Meltzer speculates that Diamond Dallas Page may have been key in Roberts joining AEW, as DDP is very close with Cody and Jake has previously credited him with saving his life following a decades-long battle with addiction.

Page was instrumental in helping Roberts get clean and healthy. That he'd play a role in Jake coming to AEW makes sense and as Meltzer writes, there hasn't been a single negative report on Roberts' personal life in years. Fingers crossed he nails it during this run.
