How AEW's Biggest Strength Is Also Its Biggest Weakness

Changing the world, but the world won't listen.

AEW World Tag Team Championship
Twitter (AEWrestling)

Kenny Omega is a World Tag Team Champion.

The AEW World Tag Team Championship has the words WORLD CHAMPION engraved on it, all caps, large lettering, front and centre. There is also a picture of a globe on it. It is, symbolically but unambiguously, as big as the singles World Championship.

AEW always presented tag team wrestling on a level with or fractionally below singles competition; following Double Or Nothing and the debut of FTR, coupled with the enforced absence of Jon Moxley, it has taken centre stage and stolen every show. The roster is deep, diverse, and loaded with star power. Generally, there are as many tag team matches on Dynamite as there are singles contests. Several World Tag Team Championship matches, tag team grudge matches, and tag team bouts that function to drive wider storylines have headlined Wednesday nights: SCU Vs. Lucha Bros., the Young Bucks Vs. Santana and Ortiz, Kenny Omega & Hangman Page Vs. Best Friends, countless matches worked by Le Sex Gods. The World Tag Team Championship match at Revolution didn't headline the show, but it was, in time allocation (30:05), buzz and euphoric reception, its real main event.

Kenny Omega is also at the heart of the most compelling storyline on episodic wrestling television.
