How Good Was Kevin Nash Actually?

Kevin Nash is a solid talker, and the concept of the “cool heel” basically started with The Outsiders. Before their arrival in WCW, the dynamic of heels and faces was carved in stone. Nash was so charismatic that he would be cheered over most of the company’s white-meat babyfaces, even when antagonizing people. Big Sexy announcing that something was “just too sweeeeeeet” is one of the most legendary catchphrases of the Monday Night Wars era.

It's also the little things in wrestling that make a big difference, and Nash had a signature way of holding a mic that aided all of his in-ring promos. He was at his best when he was taking aim at WCW's old guard and pointing out that he was a white knight here to save the business from the dated musings of Ric Flair and Roddy Piper.

However, it’s hard to seem like one of the greats when you’re so regularly standing next to Scott Hall. This isn’t to compare the two; it’s just that it’s difficult to shine in the presence of one of wrestling's great talkers. He also occasionally referenced elements of pop culture that were a little outdated for their time, and getting the difference between an adjective and a verb wrong when talking about "where the big boys play" is something that will follow him around “f-f-f-for life”.

Kevin was an overall reliable force on the mic without ever being in the conversation of the greats or having a truly legendary promo to hang his hat on.
