How THIS WWE Faction Was Almost Totally Different

Lucha House Party was supposed to be something totally different to the babyface group that appeared on WWE TV.

Lince Dorado has revealed, via the 'Two Man Power Trip Of Wrestling' podcast, that he and pals initially pitched a more "sophisticated" look than the one writers went with. Lince says he, Gran Metalik and Kalisto wanted to wear suave suits and appear as "stoic luchadores" who acted more like "the mob" than fun-loving babyfaces.

WWE were not keen on that - Vince McMahon liked the idea of making LHP happy-go-lucky sorts, but they were never truly comfortable with his direction. In fact, as Dorado explained on the pod, he found McMahon's plans to be "overpowering".

Never standing up to say "no" is something he regrets to this day.

Lince, Metalik and Kalisto loved the thought of being "harder" edged. They still wanted to wear colourful masks, but figured that'd clash neatly with the black suited look. Then, in promos, they could talk about how serious Mexican wrestling culture meant the world to them.

Instead, they were tasked with shouting "LUCHA! LUCHA! LUCHA!" over and over again.
