Away from the Royal Rumbles, the rivalry between Cody Rhodes and Kevin Owens continues to rumble on. With Owens growing frustrated with the American Nightmare's willingness to team with Roman Reigns, KO finally snapped on his now-former-friend after WWE Bad Blood back in October. Since then, the Prizefighter has yet to get the better of Cody in a formal match, although the Canadian has left Rhodes laying a number of times, most notably hitting the Undisputed WWE Champion with a Package Piledriver following the pair's match at Saturday Night's Main Event at the end of 2024. With Kevin Owens nowadays claiming ownership of the classic Winged Eagle belt, that title and Cody Rhodes' Undisputed WWE Title will be held above the ring in a ladder match at the 2025 Royal Rumble.
As for the other title match scheduled for Royal Rumble, the Motor City Machine Guns find themselves with a chance to become two-time WWE Tag Team Champions as they go up against the #DIY tandem of Johnny Gargano and Tommaso Ciampa. Similar to the issues between Cody Rhodes and Kevin Owens, Alex Shelley and Chris Sabin were long-time friends with Gargano and Ciampa, but that all came to an end with #DIY utilised underhand tactics to dethrone MCMG for those titles.
Given how the Royal Rumble matches themselves often tend to sneak past the one-hour mark, it looks as if WWE is taking a four-match approach when it comes to the Rumble card. Then again, it wouldn't be a total surprise to see another match added by the time the PLE starts, with WWE under Paul 'Triple H' Levesque usually putting together five-match line-ups when it comes to its Premium Live Events.
